type='text'>silver lining in a job

Can't remember when was the last time I watched a Korean drama. But I guess in almost every drama, the lead will always be good looking and has a well-paying job. Their families and friends can screw up but they will always be successful in their career.

Everything is smooth sailing. There will always be a silver lining even though things may turn bad. The good will prevail. Mind you this really only happens in dramas.

Especially at work, when things seem to be in your control but the truth is most of the time it turns out to be otherwise. When workload seems to become lighter, someone out there will know it better than you and start piling up your work. When relationships seem to improve, other problems arise. When things get bad, they will only get worse.

It is a constant challenge in life you would say. I believe so. That's why I always tell myself to be a fighter.

A colleague asked me last night what is the difference between this current job as compared to my previous ones. I said I spend more time managing people. I figured an office is made of people who implement work processes. It is all about adapting and making it work best for yourself. But most of the time, it's just about adapting and making the best out of it.

I like my current job. No other complaints. It's all about adapting which I am trying to get used to. Drama is afterall an adaption of real life situations and they make it look best.

And my life has always been a drama I like best.

silence is bliss

Just finished watching another drama, Silence, by Vic Chou and korean actress Piao En Hui (Lian Sheng in Da Chang Jin). Love the show of course and some of the lines are simply amazing.
The story is about a girl who could not speak after suffering from a shock when she was 12. At the hospital, she met a 12-year-old boy and they found chemisty in silence. They share a secret hideout, a lucky star sign and a promise to meet again on Christmas Day in 2006.
As fate has it, they lost contact. And as fate has it again, they met again after they grew up. Not knowing they knew each other before, they resolved misunderstandings and fell in love. Fate has its hand in everything, the guy suffered cancer but they spent his last days happily.
The girl expressed herself through sign language. There was a line when Andy Hui said there is no need for words. Body language speaks it all. That was the scene when Andy finally realised that Piao En Hui (Shen Shen) does not love him.
En Hui did not have any verbal lines at all. Not until the last episode when she called out "Qi Wei Yi' and spoke 'I love you'. These are the only words she said in the whole serial. The most important words that anyone would want to hear. The only words that matter.
Of course there are sadists throughout the show to keep the couple out. But it turns out that they realise about the importance of spending your last days with the one with love. Who do you want to be with at the moment of your death? How will you die with no regrets, not for yourself but for the ones who love you and still living after your death?
Keep loving him / her.
Words are meaningless if they are out to hurt. I have been suffering this in my current job. The client is just out to say hurtful words to make my life miserable. So I chose to leave the job as I know I deserve good treatment.
That aside, love do make people change. Change for the better of course.
So next time, if don't have anything nice to say. Just be silent. It is more appreciative.
Maybe because of this, a guy chose not to answer my email cos he wants to reject me but does not want to say it out.
And I got the message of course.
More importantly communication does not stop at silence. Silence is a form of communication in itself.

Over dinner

It is always interesting to observe what happens over dinner. A dinner with a group of not-so-close friends.
Everyone seems to be interested to get to know one another better, yet wary of the other person as well. Everyone keeps a light-hearted attitude, cracking jokes but may unknowingly offend someone at the table.
As usual, it is a mixture of girls and boys. No one knows another person particulary well to read his/her mind. So every person at the table is an observer and target of attention at the same time. However it is not hard to notice that it is usually the prettiest girl who will get the guys' attention.
It is also fascinating to guess what's on each other's mind. What is truth? And what is a casual remark?
In Korean dramas, it is always a dinner of four young people, each having their own motives and thoughts. Like A is always paying attention to B, while C is flirting with B and D likes A.
A simple affair but with complicated outcomes.

warm the cold heart

Just finished watching 'Gong' and I loved it. The story talks about how a girl manages to warm the heart of the male lead (the crown prince) and he finally falls in love with her.

The prince is burdened with responsibilities and challenges and yet he has to portray a cold and confident image. But he is a human being, a man after all, who needs to take a break and smell the flowers. This girl simply charges into his life without any warning and manages to turn it around. Both so different in family background, personaility and interests etc, yet they click and fill in the gaps perfectly. Of course a happy ending.

While everyone rejoices for the couple, have they forgotten about the other 2 leads?

The prince's first love who tries hard to win back his love. She may be seen despicable but she is only a woman - a woman who wants to protect her own love. Then later she realises it takes two to tango.

Next is the other male lead. Also a prince with fantastic qualities and an even warmer heart. But he did not win the love of the princess. He has all eyes on her and is willing to do anything for her. The girl is touched but she cannot love him. There is simply no sparks.

My colleague asked me which male lead do I prefer. I said the crown prince. While I appreciate the 2nd prince's love and sincerity but I need someone who is street smart and able to look after me. The crown prince may be cold and has no interest in the girl at first. But all is not lost. Her love for him finally touched him.

This is the beauty of love - learn to warm the cold heart.

options

I think having options is a great boost to my personal ego. Last Mon, I felt like the female lead in the Korean dramas - enjoying the attention of the 2 male leads. Well I think I am luckier cos I had the attention of more than 2 men. That is definitely a fantastic boost. Well done gal.

But of course i also know that the attention of many guys can never be compared to one particular man - the man I have heart beat for. For a gal yearning for his attention, I only care about his every movement, look and smiles.

The guy who makes my heart beat again after so many years. Will he be the one to make it beat further?

Seriously, I don't need options. Some say it will beat extra fast. whereas I heard a classic line (can't remember from which drama) - your heart can't be beating at 100+ all the time. You need to find someone who lets your heart beat normally and yet feel comfy with him.

Then how do you know when you like someone? For me, i guess he did not make my heart beat faster. He just make me want to look at him more, smile at him more, talk to him more. Is that called drawn to him?

Then how do you know if he likes you in return? My friend told me if he likes me, he will sms me within 3 days. If not, i can move on. Falling in love is always beautiful but let's all do it gracefully.

life is drama

There is a saying - life is like a drama and drama is a reflection of life. Which is more touching and real then?
It was quite a dramatic week for me.
Firstly I found a long lost friend whom I have lost contact for the past 7 years. I never thought that I would / want meet him again but my memory of him has been daunting on me. So I decided to track him down. Thanks to technology and msn. I found him just like that. Only to know that the guy I once liked is married with 2 kids now and posted back home. It has been a pleasant lost and found. It's always good to know that your friends, especially those you have lost contact, are leading good lives.
Then I decided to do my hair, giving myself a fresh look before meeting him after 7 years. The hairdo turned out nice. Then I was supposed to be happily shopping in JB for the weekend, until I received an sms (thanks to technology again) that one of my friend's mother passed away. It affected me a bit as that friend is someone whom I once loved and hated most, whom I am finally able to face him as an ordinary friend after 3 years.
The climax came when I reached home and found out my dad injured his foot. He slipped in the bathroom and a broken brush went straight into his foot.
It was definitely not a quiet and normal weekend. Drama is a reflection of life, but real life is more touching and real.
Every living being is always learning to take things easy and move on in life. This is not such a pleasant week but we have more episodes to tell.

my memory

Memories are precious. They will always stay in our hearts and minds. Images might be vague, but the feelings is true.
Memory is an important component in Korean drama and it has definitely captured the hearts of many. It is a pretty contradictory thing actually.
It can be said that someone with memories, is like someone with a past. Someone who has loved and lived truly. And I am more drawn to this type of character. On the other hand, it is also said that someone who lives in his memory, is like living in the past. He is just a walking zombie in today's life.
Recently I have been daunted with my own memory. A memory of 7 years ago. The person is still so alive and my feelings are still so real. I don't know where he is now or what he is doing. But he has always been here, right in my heart and mind. I feel so loved and happy in my memory.
I become lost and lonely when I returned to reality. I know he is just a memory of my past. Someone whom I once knew and loved. Can I love another when I am living in my memory?
Will there be someone to wake me up from this memory? Who will it be?
Memory is good and true. But I can't rely on it to live my life. If he is not going to re-enter my life, I need another to create new memories.
My memory is precious and unforgetable. Yours too.

is eating important

Everyone needs to eat. Every drama has eating scenes. Every episode has a eating or drinking act.
Whenever someone is leaving, the last words you would say are: remember to eat, sleep well ...
Is eating that important? Do we live to eat or eat to live? After I started dieting, eating is no longer important, but just a reminder that I am still alive. Probably it is a reminder for some people to tell themselves that they are still around and someone still cares for them. It is an expression of affection. Simple but direct. Direct but filled with love.
When someone tells you to remember to eat, be appreciative. And when someone is willing to cook for you, you know you are loved. In the Korean dramas, the lead will cook some nice dishes if the other person is in a foul mood. I was lucky enough to have a guy cook my favourite dishes for me. I know he probably does not hate cooking but is definitely not his greatest hobby. I am thankful that there is someone out there who is willing to cook for me.
Is eating important then? Yes it is. It not only shows that you are alive and being cared for. It tells you that there are people out there whom you should love as well.
Diet aside, eat well.

airport

Because of my new job, I have been going to the airport pretty often.
Airport is the place for arrival and departure, not for flights but for people. People you know, people you don't. People you care, people you don't.
Every Korean drama will definitely or almost have a scene at the airport. Most of the time is to stop either lead from leaving. Seldom is it for waiting for someone to return home. I guess departure is more emotionally gratifying. Arrival or coming home, gathering is always about being happy and certain. But departure is not. You are not sure what's waiting for you after you leave. Once you pass that departure gate, you are open to new adventures and challenges.
Airport is usually a cold, mechanical building, it's the people who makes it a place that can create drama.
To date, the airport has not created any drama for me. I am waiting still. One of these days when I am departing or arriving at the airport, I will be the lead in my drama.

3 years

Let's talk about the 3-year element. In most dramas, the producer usually use a 3-year gap to show relationship transition, like how the leads get over the break up, death etc. 3 years seem to be an appropriate amount of time for people to get over things and move on.
It is reasonable and no one will blame for the change of heart.
I never thought that the 3-year element will happen to me too. I took 3 years to get over my ex and finally be able to face him as an ordinary friend.
He called me last night but I missed his call. I suddenly realised that I haven't dialed that number for the past 3 years when I returned his call.
There is also a classic mandarin song called '3 years'. I must say the songwriter is the most brilliant person on earth. He basically set the standard for transitions in relationships.
After 3 years, it is still mixed feelings. I would probably need a new direction to guide me to move on, like the leads in the drama serials.

Korean drama love

I suppose you might find that this blog comes a bit tooooo late. Korean drama craze has been on for the past 5 years and is probably going downhill.
This blog is not to talk about how crazy people are over Korean dramas but explore the messages that each drama or scene or theme is trying to tell us.
I love Korean drama. Because I find that I can relate to it (though I only been to Korea twice) but it is so real and close to my heart. I can literally laugh, cry, move and think with the actors.
Korean drama has the power to set you into the scene and make you live, breathe it.
I will usually have some emotional sway and thoughts after I finish a drama. No other shows has influenced me as such.
Of course love theme is most prevalent in these dramas. To love or not to love, to love hard or to set free, to remember or to forget.... They teach lessons.
I have just finished a new drama called which star are you from?'. The story is pretty simple. The male lead's gf died in a car accident and made him very despondent. 3 years later he met a girl who looks exactly like his gf and falls in love with her. Of course the female lead loves him too. Soon after, they realised that the female lead is his ex-gf's long lost sister. They went into a dilemma of whether to love or not love. But their love is so strong despite objections from family and friends. Finally it is a happy ending.
Don't you have find that the elements are repetitive in other dramas as well? Yes, 3 years, look alike, leads fall in love, family objects, etc. The beauty of Korean drama is that every scriptwriter is able to piece various elements together and make it into a brand new story.
Why does Korean drama craza takes off so easily? How come so many of us can get connected to the stories? Even men. Research shows that male viewers are equally hooked to 'Jewel in the palace'. My father is one good example.
It is love. We want to find the love that is absent in our real lives. The leads are always so passionate, expressive and emotional about love. Nothing in this world can stop them in pursuing real love. Nothing at all. But can we do that in real life? Do we feel such love in the first place?
Korean drama gives us the opportunity to indulge in love, love which we have forgotten to express and give.
